Thanks to you all for your art and genius.Wednesday, February 21, 2007, 07:29 PM - Music, - UK, English Listening to this album yesterday, brought a tear to my eyes. So I thought it was an uncharachteristic moment when I became emotional on meeting Steve and hearing the band on this tour in York. I'll not go through a track by track review, but give a listen to Battle of Epping Forest and you will get the gist of my argument. These talented musicians put their own unique skills and styles to a classic.Ī special mention must go to Nad and Rob, who come of age with this album and truly turn this magical set into Genesis for the 21st Century. No attempt to merely copy the style of the original members. The big difference for me with this album, to previous Genesis Revisited offerings, is the contribution of Nad Sylvan, Rob Townsend, Craig Blundell and Jonas Reinold. This is Genesis reimagined by Steve Hackett and his wonderful ensemble, with the bonus of updated snippets of the wonderful Spectral Mornings and a few from his latest solo offering. You may ask, do we really need a new Steve Hackett live album? The simple answer is YES!Īny doubters, who think that this is a Genesis tribute album need to really take an unbiased listen. On a lighter note. How cool is it that Jonas Rheingold gets to sing and play acoustic guitar along with Nad on "More Fool Me"? Now that's entertainment! Turning the song into some sort of saxophone laden, bluesy romp doesn't quite put the lipstick on the pig. And now the rest of the story.I know Steve has had qualms about "I Know What I Like." and in fact he left Genesis during the mixing of "Seconds Out" because he couldn't stand listening to it. The rest of the concert is top notch, and Nad does a very good job.especially on "Battle of Epping Forest". I suppose I can live without a live version of "Ballad of a Decomposing Man", although I think the band would have enjoyed playing it due to it's playful manner. "Flight captain James at you service, last month I went down in the drink." These are some of the lyrics to Tigermoth a song from the album "Spectral Mornings" which I was hoping to hear in it's entirety however, the song is relegated to an abbreviated instrumental, which is a shame because(with the vocal help of his sister-in-law) they do an excellent rendition of "The Virgin and the Gypsy".
